Proxies for brand protection

Counterfeit listings, unauthorized resellers and copycat sites are often shown only to buyers in their target country. To find them, you need to look from there.

What this is for

• Searching marketplaces for listings that use your brand name, logo or product photos.
• Checking that authorized resellers keep to agreed prices and regions.
• Finding look-alike domains and phishing pages that imitate your site, including ones that hide from visitors outside the target country.

How to set it up

Target the country of each marketplace, and rotate IPs between searches so results are not shaped by one address's history. Take a screenshot and save the page with a timestamp: that is the evidence a marketplace or a lawyer will ask for. Each country guide names the main local marketplaces.

Good practice

• Use marketplaces' own brand registry and takedown tools for the actual reports.
• Do not make purchases or contact sellers through automated means.
• Keep evidence secure, since it may include sellers' personal data.
